| Video: Ma & The Auto: 1920's Cars, Highways & Traffic Short film of the late 20's or early 30's with very interesting footage of traffic on an early parkway. Looks to me like some of the parkways up here in the Northeast, particularly the Hutchinson River Pkwy. in the Bronx, though I can't say that's what it is. Note that the road is not divided by a barrier. I would love to find out these locations & tried to do so by reading the name of the railroad on the passing train, but couldn't make it out. Also, very interesting credits on this short. The verse narration was written by Edgar Guest, once famed syndicated newspaper poet, and read by Norman Brokenshire, once famed radio announcer. The marimba musical background is Louis Betancourt's Marimba orchestra and, most interesting of all, the song is by Frank Loesser, future star lyricist of Broadway & Hollywood. Maybe this is his first film credit? |
